Is that the BitRaider launcher or the game?

    Please provide some logs

  • If you navigate to the game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Pirates of the Burning Sea) (Probably) you can click the exe of the game, bypassing the patcher.

Give that a try, Bitraider (the patcher) is, um... not outstanding.

  • Hi.

I had the same problem with Fallout New Vegas and fixed it by downloading Windows C++ Visual or whatever it's called and launched it with the exe instead of the launcher itself and it worked. However, this method doesn't work for PotBS and it still displays the error.

My drivers are up to date but I will still try the other methods mentioned in the link in

Windows reliability monitor might show some usefull info - you'd need to "View ..  details"

    refers to Program Compatibility Assistant.

#4 in previous provided solutions included program compatibility assistant.

Question is whether the reliability monitor details looked the same before changes was made via compatability mode.

Disable what settings you have set via compatibility mode -

Run game again - post the new details from reliability monitor.

You referenced Visual C++ earlier - there are many versions of that - did you install it from here:
    C:\ProgramData\Bitraider\Cache\Support\MSVC8\vcredist_x86_sp1.exe

If you do not have that file - it is also included in this: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvrkFJnFofG9gQ9Rxh9wcMY4A_1U

Just noticed we have no notice/post in this thread about checking for corruption of game files - please run a reaudit of files:

I also just notice that the #5 solution instructions - instruct only to run the dism commands if sfc return "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files"

I always run the dism to be sure (have often seen issue solved by dism even if sfc did not return any error).

I do not need to run the first dism command (checkhealth)
    just run
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
it does a check and repairs if anything found.

    Restarting pc and rerunning
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    can also be adviced.

When copying the files included in the data folder included in the onedrive folder you linked do i replace the program files x86 already on my pc when copying the one included in data

  • KasparKKasparK (Forum Administrator)
It was just that one file you could get from that package.
Wasn't intended you should follow the complete instruct in that package.

But no harm in doing so.

    Replace ...
(Will replace what is in the bitraider folder)

  • Hi
I tried to install the game in the folder where Steam games are downloaded (C:Steam/steamapps/common) (yes I installed Steam right in the C drive) and tried to uninstall by uninstalling the game, uninstalling BitRaider, and deleting every file associated with either. Now when I try to reinstall the game the launcher just says relocating and closes.

Why install it in the steam folder?

Install to default or another new folder instead?

yeah I'm doing that rightnow I just thought that was contributing to why PotBS won't download

  • Hi.
I reinstalled the game into Program Files x86 and the problem still persists. It won't show up in Reliability History and I tried downloading the files you linked and it still won't work.
  • KasparKKasparK (Forum Administrator)
So same error but no new logging in reliability.
    You reinstalled and redownloaded.
    You checked systemfiles.

    So only thing left is:
Make a new windows user profile and run windows in clean boot mode(NOT reset, recover or reinstall windows).

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

in order to rule out profile issue or any other software intervening.

after that - only suggestion I have left is reinstall windows.
