Building 1st Rates too expensive

As a shipwright I have noticed a certain vacuum regarding what ships are being built. The sovereign s are being built, along with concordes. However, victory's, indomitables and formidable are not being built. The reason is they are too expensive to justify the cost. If you raised their stats and lowered their costs us shipwrights would start making them.

Well ... in my eyes the Sovereign is too expensive if you compare it to the Victory. I updated PotBS Wikia some time ago (all 3rd - 1st Rates and some general stuff): http://potbs.wikia.com/wiki/'Sovereign'_First_Rate

However; for all 1st and 2nd Rates you need to invest $, so I guess alot of people are like why not go for the best (Sovereign).

The difference between 1st and 2nd Rates isn't so big in terms of buildcosts; that's the first reason why 2nd Rates aren't so popular, second reason is that 2nd Rates doesn't gain alot of armor compared to the much cheaper Wenden 3rd Rate. Which results people willing to invest -> First Rate -> Sovereign (mentioned above).

Glad you wrote this, Free Blood. May I ask questions?

In the two posts in this thread I see six ships mentioned: three first rates, a 2nd rate, a 3rd rate and a 4th. Are all of these readily available in game? Can I hop on Nation Chat, find a ship builder and order one? How much do they cost. Now that my Econ buildings are all set I'm ready to buy a ship.

I'm looking at their specs, thanks for updating the wiki Vuur. Since I still lack most of the colossal outfitting recipes I feel drawn to the Concorde. Will it be a good ship for fleeting? I was planning to use a Cap MC, something I can build in my own ship yard. Would I be well served to use the Cap MC for port battles and PvP and the Concorde for generating unrest by fleeting?

Also where is the best place to get colossal outfitting recipe books, like the Cryptonauticon X-XV. I've been looking in the Auction Houses, but no luck. Is there a place they most frequently drop? In the end I want to go big and bad, at least some of the time.

Apologies for the hijack, but this thread is very helpful.

    Thanks again!

  • @Ramelli

I can recommend Alexander Fourth Rate for multiple purpose till you get experienced enough. It has great firepower and price is nothing from AH.

Wenden is easy to built and better alternative to 4th rate for PvE or Heavy PBs. When you get experienced, you can just buy Invincible 1st rate for 1600 points from TA.

  • Awesome, thanks. I'll start looking for a ship builder and checking the Auction House.

These books are free for you if you want them.
Antigua Only, Pirate Nation. (if you are not pirate, just ask someone to give Mohag a yell)
Only 1 of each book though ;p !

    The Reapers
    Antigua.
  • I haven't played in a long time, but cryptonauticons dropped pretty frequently from npc when you go out farming npcs or fleeting.

    I just saw this, thanks!
I'll give you a shout. I keep liking pirates like this they're going to kick me out of the British Empire.

Which port should I come to?

    Thanks again!

That's been my game plan. I'm fleeting quite often, but haven't had them drop yet. Once they do I can make outfitting for my shiny new Wenden!
  • cos they are books i can telport with them. ask for me in pirate nation (make a lowbie pirate if you need to, or ask a friend) im usually lurking
    The Reapers
    Antigua.
  • Awesome! I made a lowbie pirate named Galewrath Spindrift. He's in Marsh Harbor, but can come to you. Thanks again.
